Back to the brooch: the jewel that never truly disappeared

A jewel that never truly disappeared

The brooch — once "something your grandmother wore" — is back. And how.
As if it briefly faded from view... but was never truly gone. And I must honestly confess: it's my favorite trend of the moment.

From royal courts to red carpets

During recent award shows like the Oscars and Golden Globes, one thing stood out:
the brooch is everywhere. Not just on women — men are wearing them again too.
On tuxedo lapels, subtly or boldly.

What celebrities are doing differently than before:

  • They wear brooches off-center (not classically on the chest)
  • They combine them with minimalist outfits → the brooch becomes the eye-catcher
  • They choose diamonds or sculptural shapes instead of small decorative pieces

A brooch is no longer just a detail, but the starting point of the look.

How it all began: the golden age of the brooch

If we go back in time, we see that the brooch had its heyday during the Victorian period (19th century) and later again in the Art Deco 1920s. It was worn high on the chest, as a symbol of love, mourning, or status, and was often enriched with secret meanings — think of hairwork, initials, or symbolism. A brooch was therefore rarely just an accessory. It often carried a hidden message.

The modern brooch: less demure, more personal

What we see today is not a repetition of the past. It's a reinterpretation, where the brooch is worn asymmetrically — and can be oversized, striking, and a little rebellious.

Styling hack: how to wear a brooch today

The biggest mistake people make? Treating the brooch like they used to. While that's precisely what makes this trend so interesting: you're allowed to play with it. The styling hack you see everywhere today — from street style to high fashion — and that truly works:

Wear your brooch in an unexpected place

  • on the collar of a white shirt
  • on a basic T-shirt (yes, really)
  • on the waist of a blazer
  • or even on a scarf or knit

Why does this work so well?

Because you create contrast.
Something classic (the brooch) on something casual or minimalistic. This immediately makes it feel modern, stylish, and effortless. According to styling advice from Vogue, we see this styling more and more in street style looks and editorials, where brooches are deliberately worn outside their traditional context to make an outfit more personal and impactful.

The trick? Keep the rest simple. Let your brooch do the talking.
